The arts constitute a medium, space, and field for creativity, diversity and understanding. Fueled by culture and indigenous tradition, artistic creations express the many dissonances and consonances that are inherent in the daily interactions and encounters between average citizens.
Most often than not, when one is asked about any given culture the first images coming to mind are likely to be those of music, visual arts, theatres, films, poetry, etc. – artistic creations all of them.
The ultimate value of the arts to any given culture or peoples is in the capacity of artistic expressions to appeal to the personal consciousness of their viewers. Differences in interpretation are inevitable and indeed encouraged and intended by the artist.
As varied as the forms of interpretation can be, however, the motivations behind creating a work of art are even more diverse. While some argue that an artist’s work is simply a reflection of that particular artist’s social, economic, and political circumstances, still others contend that it is the creative imagination of the artist that is the main impetus behind his/her expression.
As consumers of artistic creations, members of the society are granted the power – by the artists – to relate and respond to works of art in whichever way they can derive fulfillment. It is this power of art that captures, stimulates, and represents the creative imagination of an entire populace.
